About The Apprentice Route

The Apprentice Route exists because the honest version of a degree apprenticeship is hard to find. Prospectuses sell. Recruitment pages sell. This site is written by someone who did one, and it tries not to.

Who writes it

One person. I started a four-year Level 6 degree apprenticeship in September 2021, straight after A-levels at 18, and finished it in 2025. I moved about 150 miles for it, lived out for the whole thing, and stayed on with the employer afterwards. Everything in the guides section either happened to me or happened to someone in my cohort.

I write anonymously, and I don't name my employer, my university, my city or anybody I worked with. That isn't coyness — it's the condition that lets me write honestly about pay reviews, drinking culture, failing a module and the parts of the experience an employer's marketing team would rather I skipped. A named site with my employer's logo on it would be a worse site.

The practical trade-off: you can't verify who I am. So everything factual on this site is sourced to somewhere you can check, and the personal writing is clearly personal.

Where the data comes from

The university, course, employer and vacancy pages are not written by hand. They're generated from official government sources and rebuilt regularly:

• Apprenticeship standards — the Skills England dataset of approved standards (levels, durations, funding bands, and the assessed knowledge, skills and behaviours).
• Training providers — Find apprenticeship training, the official register of who is approved to deliver each standard.
• Live vacancies — Find an apprenticeship, the government's vacancy service.

Those sources contain public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0, and every page that reproduces them says so. Vacancies churn daily and standards get revised, so each page tells you when it was last checked and links back to the official source. Check the official page before you rely on anything here.

How the site pays for itself

Display advertising, through Google AdSense. That's it. Specifically, what I don't do:

• No university, employer or training provider can pay to appear here, to appear higher, or to be removed. The listings are generated from public registers; the code doesn't have a concept of a paying customer.
• No affiliate links, no referral fees, no lead generation. I don't sell your details to anybody, because I don't collect them.
• No sponsored articles. Nothing on this site has been paid for or approved by an employer, a university, or the government.

Ads are labelled where they appear. If an advert on this site ever looks misleading or inappropriate next to the content, tell me — I can block individual advertisers and categories.

What this site isn't

The Apprentice Route is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Department for Education, Skills England, any university, any training provider or any employer named on it. Nothing here is careers, financial, legal or tax advice — see the terms for the long version of that.

Corrections

If something here is wrong — a broken standard reference, an employer listed that no longer runs a scheme, a figure that's out of date, or a guide that misstates a rule — email hello@theapprenticeroute.co.uk and I'll fix it. Corrections to factual errors are free, quick and don't require you to be anybody in particular.
